DocScan privacy policy
The short version. Your scans and their text never leave your phone. DocScan has no account, no cloud, no analytics and no tracking.
The one thing DocScan sends over the internet on its own is an anonymous crash report when the app crashes, so the problem can be fixed. It never contains your documents, their text, your file names or your name, and you can turn it off in Settings.
Who we are
MR AppWorks is the controller of the little personal data described here (crash reports and feedback). DocScan is made by MR AppWorks. Questions about this policy: mrappworks.dev@gmail.com.
What DocScan does with your data
DocScan is a document scanner. It uses the camera to photograph paper, cleans the photo up, and turns it into pages and PDFs. All of that happens on your phone.
- Your documents stay on this phone. Scans, pages, recognised text and settings are kept in DocScan's private storage on your device. Other apps cannot read them. DocScan has no account and no cloud, so there is no copy of your documents anywhere else.
- Text recognition runs on the phone. DocScan reads the words on a page with Google's ML Kit text recognition, using a model that ships inside the app. The pages are not sent to Google or to anyone else.
- Crash reports, through Sentry. If DocScan crashes or freezes, it sends a report to Sentry (Sentry is run by Functional Software, Inc., which acts for us as a service provider, and the reports are stored in its EU data centre). The report contains: the error and its stack trace, the version of DocScan, your phone's model, your Android version, and a random installation ID that is not linked to you. Its only purpose is fixing crashes. It never contains your documents, their text, your search words, your file names, screenshots, your name, your email address or your location. Sentry keeps reports for 90 days by default. You can turn crash reports off at any time in Settings → Send crash reports; they are on by default. To have the reports linked to your installation deleted, write to the contact address below.
- Feedback, only if you send it. Settings → Send feedback opens a web form in your phone's in-app browser. The form receives the DocScan version, the platform (Android), a random installation ID, and whatever you choose to write. It is used only to answer you and to improve the app. Nothing is sent unless you submit the form, and the form is optional. You can ask for your feedback to be deleted at the contact address below.
- Google's ML Kit usage statistics. Text recognition uses Google's ML Kit. Google says ML Kit may send it technical usage and performance figures about the recognition library (for example how long a call took). These do not include your images or the text that was read. DocScan does not control this.
- Nothing else is collected or shared. DocScan has no analytics and no tracking, and it does not use an advertising ID.
- Installation IDs. Crash reports carry a random ID made by Sentry's library, and the feedback form's address carries another random ID made by DocScan. Both are made on your phone, say nothing about who you are, and are gone when you uninstall DocScan.
- When you share a PDF, it goes only where you choose. Sharing, saving and printing use Android's own share sheet, file picker and print dialog. What happens to a file after you hand it to another app is up to that app and to you; DocScan does not see where it went.

DocScan does not ask for your contacts, location, microphone, or for access to your other photos or files. If you choose Import, Android's own photo picker shows you your photos and gives DocScan only the ones you pick.
Backups
DocScan turns off Android's automatic app backup, so your scans are not copied to a cloud backup. If you want a copy of your documents, use Export all documents in Settings: it makes a ZIP of PDFs that you keep wherever you like.
Rating prompt
After you have used DocScan for a while, it may ask you to rate it. That sheet is shown by the Google Play Store app, not by DocScan. DocScan is not told what you answered, and does not send anything to Google for it. Google Play's own privacy policy covers the rating.
Advertising
DocScan 1.0 shows no ads. A future version may show ads from Google AdMob. Before any version does, this policy will be updated to say what the ads collect, and where the law requires it you will be asked for your consent first.
Why we may use this data
Crash reports: our legitimate interest in keeping the app working. Feedback: your choice, and your consent when you submit the form. Your documents are never sent, so no basis is needed for them.
Where it is kept
Sentry stores crash reports in the EU, in Germany. The feedback form runs on Cloudflare. Your documents stay on your phone.
How long we keep it
Crash reports: 90 days (Sentry's default). Feedback: until it has been dealt with, and at most 12 months.
Your rights
If you are in the EU or the UK you can ask us, by email, for a copy of your data, to delete it, to restrict how we use it, or to stop using it. You also have the right to complain to your local data-protection authority.
Deleting your data
You can delete a document at any time. Deleted documents stay in Trash for 30 days, and you can empty Trash yourself in Settings. Uninstalling DocScan removes everything it stored on your phone. Your documents are held nowhere else, so there is nothing else to delete. For crash reports and feedback, see Delete your DocScan data.
Delete your DocScan data
This explains how to delete the data of the DocScan app made by MR AppWorks.
- On your phone. Uninstall DocScan, or go to Settings → Apps → DocScan → Clear storage. This deletes all your documents, their text, your settings and the random installation ID.
- Crash reports and feedback. Email mrappworks.dev@gmail.com with the subject “Delete my DocScan data”. Include your phone model, roughly when you used DocScan, and the date of any feedback you sent. We delete the matching crash reports and feedback within 30 days, and reply to confirm.
- What is deleted, and what is kept. All the crash reports and feedback that match are deleted, and nothing is kept. Without a request, crash reports are deleted automatically after 90 days, and feedback after 12 months.
Children
DocScan is intended for adults (18+) and is not directed at children. It does not ask anyone for personal information.
Changes to this policy
This policy will be updated before DocScan begins any new use of data, such as showing ads, and the date at the top will change.
